Android-first beta · sideload install

Install the ProForta app

For Android · about five minutes

The ProForta app for Android is one app doing two jobs. It is ProForta, the same account and the same screens you use in your browser. It is also the part that reads your health data through Google Health Connect, turns it into insights on the phone, and sends only the interpreted result to your own node. Nothing raw leaves your phone.

For this beta you install it by downloading it directly, rather than from the Google Play Store. That takes a few extra taps the first time, and one of them is a screen where Android blocks the install. This page walks you through each one, in order.

Download the ProForta app

Android only. The download is a file named proforta-0.1.3.apk.

Before you start

  • An Android phone. Health Connect is built into Android 14 and newer, and available as a free download on older versions.
  • A ProForta account. If you have not signed in yet, you can do that inside the app in step four.

Step by step

  1. Download the app. Tap the download button above. Your browser saves the proforta-0.1.3.apk file, usually to your Downloads. When it finishes, tap the download notification, or open Files and tap the file there.
  2. Allow this one install. Because the app is not coming from the Play Store, Android asks for permission the first time. You will see a message like "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source." Tap Settings on that prompt, turn on Allow from this source, then tap back and tap Install. This permission is scoped to the one app you are installing now.
  3. Get past the Play Protect block. Android blocks any app installed outside the Play Store from a developer it has not seen at scale, so you will see a dialog like "App blocked to protect your device". Tap More details, then tap Install anyway. Android may then offer to send the app for a security check, and accepting that is fine.
  4. Open ProForta and sign in. When the install finishes, tap Open. ProForta opens to your account, the same sign-in you use in your browser.
  5. Connect your data. Tap Connect your data. The app asks Health Connect for permission to read your data. Approve the data types it requests. From then on, your sleep, recovery and activity flow to your node in the background, with nothing to reopen.

If you used the LifeCare.ID® Edge companion

The Edge companion was a second app that did the reading part on its own. It is retired and no longer sends data. The ProForta app carries that part itself. Install it with the steps above, sign in with the same LifeCare.ID®, tap Connect your data, then uninstall the companion.

Why this isn't on Google Play yet

Publishing on Google Play is a review process that takes time, and we chose to open the beta first rather than wait on it. So for now you install the app directly. A Play Store version is coming, and we will say here what to do when it arrives.

Installing directly is safe when the source is one you trust. This app is published by Enbarca Inc. (doing business as HCVC.net), the same team behind ProForta, and it is downloaded over an encrypted connection from our own domain. If anything on this page looks off, do not install, write to us first.

If something goes wrong

  • The file will not open. Make sure the download finished. Open Files, find proforta-0.1.3.apk in Downloads, and tap it there.
  • The block screen closed and nothing installed. Any button other than Install anyway cancels the install. Open proforta-0.1.3.apk in Files again and repeat step three.
  • Health Connect is missing. On older Android versions, install Health Connect from the Play Store first, then run the connect step again.
  • "Connect your data" does nothing. Confirm the app is installed and you are signed in, then try again. If it still does not open, write to the team.
